Duct Sealing

If you have a forced air furnace or air conditioner, duct sealing is one of the most important steps you can take toward improving your home’s energy efficiency.

Fact is, duct leakage can account for as much as 30% of your monthly bills!  

According to the US Secretary of Energy, that leakage, (just the leakage, not the 70% that actually heats and cools our homes) costs US homeowners 5 billion dollars a year.  That's billion, with a "B".

As if it weren't bad enough to operate several power plants 24 hours a day, seven days a week, just to feed our leaking systems, most of those ducts are in places we don't want to go.

Leaking ducts in attics, basements or crawlspaces are drawing hot (or cold), humid (or dry), filthy air from those same places.  

Guess what happens then…  It gets distributed evenly throughout your home, for your family to breathe.

Take a closer look

Even if you've recently had your furnace or A/C replaced, don't assume it came with new ductwork.  The HVAC industry is fiercly competitive.  Most mechanical contractor's estimates for HVAC equipment replacement don't include ductwork replacements or even duct sealing because most customers wouldn't pay for it.  Instead, they'd most likely take the lower bid, the one that doesn't include sealing the ducts.

That ultra-efficient furnace in your basement might just be strapped up to amazingly leaky 50+ year old ductwork.

It's the rare home, from the hundred-year-old bungalow to the spanking-new-mansion on the mountain, where we don't find duct leaks.
