$100 Energy AuditsThere are literally hundreds of ways your home might be losing energy, wasting money, or making your tootsies cold. If you wanted to correct those problems, how would you know where to start? What improvements will offer the best return on investment (or ROI) in terms of energy efficiency? What projects will be a huge waste of money?
Take a closer lookHaving a home energy audit should be the first place to start on any home energy efficiency project, whether you intend to hire a professional building performance contractor to handle your home energy retrofit project, or do the work yourself. At Conservation Pros, we call it a Home Performance Checkup. It differs from what the industry refers to as a Home Energy Rating, or a HERS rating, in a few, very important ways. Not the least of which is that it only costs 80% less. The Home Energy Rating Standard (HERS) was started by a group known as RESnet, with the specific intention of creating a scoring standard for qualifying "green mortgages". Unless you're seeking energy efficient financing, such as an EEM or EIM, or qualifying for a certification program, that HERS score is fairly useless.
Another big difference between our Home Performance Checkup and a home energy audit is that we are building performance contractors. We actually implement the repairs we suggest, rather than hand you a list and walk away, leaving you wondering who's going to do this stuff… No offense to Home Energy Raters (Heck, some of our best friends are Home Energy Raters) but it takes five days of classes and a test to become one. Here in our office, we have nearly forty years of experience in sustainable construction, renovation and remodeling. Add to that a double handful of college degrees and countless certifications and, it's safe to say, we have the wisdom and experience to keep your tootsies warm. And keep you safe in the process…
How we can helpOur $100 energy audit (Home Performance Checkup), typically a two-hour process, begins with an interview about your concerns and goals. After we've gotten the necessary information, we conduct a thorough inspection of your home and produce a detailed report and repair estimate. Most of the time, a home doesn't need depressurization. But, if yours does, we will include a blower door test for an additional fee. When the process is complete you get a report documenting the problems found, and the potential solutions with strategies and pricing spelled out in plain English.

At Conservation Pros, we'd like to see that money go toward qualified energy-efficiency home retrofitting projects, rather than a HERS score that doesn't do much to lower your energy bills.
